What Causes Diabetes?

There are two types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is known to have few beta cells because of the active cells present in you body that destroy them. It is an autoimmune disease. Type 2 diabetes, on the other hand, is the more common type of diabetes. It is known as non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. In this type, the body does not efficiently utilize the insulin it generates. This usually happens to people who are in the middle age or who are obese. There are several factors that play a part in developing either of these two kinds of diabetes. Below are some of them.

  1. Like in any other disease, genetics play a role in getting diabetes. If one of your relatives, especially your parents, has diabetes, there is a risk that you can inherit it. Regular visit to your physician is advisable to monitor your health. You should not wait a sickness to come out, or worse, to aggravate before acting on it.what causes diabetes What Causes Diabetes?
  2. Poor diet can also be a reason in the development of diabetes. If you do not have the proper nutrition like high intake of cultured food, fats, carbohydrates and low intake in fiber and protein, you could be a candidate of getting the disease. Also, excessive food intake prevents the pancreas from functioning properly, hence less secretion of insulin. This leads to high blood sugar levels which cause diabetes.
  3. Stress, weather physical or emotional, can also induce diabetes. Managing stress is definitely important to stay healthy.
  4. Diabetes can develop at any age but as a person gets older, the greater the chance of acquiring the disease. Caution is more required for those who are above 50 of age as they are more prone in getting diabetes.
  5. Being obese can greatly contribute in having diabetes. Because of excessive fat in the body, the tissue and muscle cells resist insulin, which should supposedly help the sugar in the blood to be absorbed by these cells. Naturally, blood sugar levels would shoot up, leading to diabetes. This is the reason why balanced diet is very important and fat intake should be in small amounts only.
  6. People who are inactive are more likely to develop diabetes compared to those who exercise daily and live a healthy life.
  7. Smokers are also more prone to fall into the prey of the disease. There is a possibility of developing immobility of joints and retinopathy. If these people stop smoking, they would not only avoid getting diabetes, they could also prevent acquiring other diseases such as cancer.
