What Are the Causes of Prostate Cancer?

Prostate cancer is uncontrolled growth of cells in male prostate glands. Prostate cancer affects mostly males who are over 50 years of age. Causes of prostate cancer are yet to be discovered even though there are many researches that have been conducted. Therefore, no one knows what causes prostate cancer in men. However, from researches that have been conducted based on how cancer cells begin to show-up, there is a clear understanding of the factors contributing to the cancer problems in men. These factors include the following.

Testosterone

Testosterone is a hormone produced by testicles. This hormone does not cause prostate cancer, however it is widely considered a contributing factor to its growth. This means that blocking production of this hormone can actually stop continued growth of these cells.Prostate Cancer 199x300 What Are the Causes of Prostate Cancer?

Age and Heredity

Age is taken as one of the contributing factors as far as what causes prostate cancer is concerned. Men above 50 are more susceptible. As a person continues to age, a production of biochemical reactions plays a key role in accelerating abnormal cell growth. Hence, young men are not prone to prostate cancer as it is in older men. Causes of prostate cancer can also be attached to a family line. It is widely believed that if a man’s father had prostate cancer, then it is likely that he will develop it. In addition, men who are of African and American origin have high chances of getting prostate cancer. Some genes are responsible for the inheritance of cancer although they have not been discovered. Genes 1 and 2, which are the primary genes found in humans are suspected to be responsible for this problem but their degree of responsibility has also not been identified.

Genetics

Conclusion from researchers says that causes of prostate cancer can be linked to genetic amalgamation of cells. Genetically acquired effects may prevent some men from developing a certain type of enzyme that acts as a defense against some agents that cause prostate cancer in the environment. When this enzyme fails to develop, then the man in question is likely to develop prostate cancer

Diet

The question as to what causes prostate cancer can also be answered and attached to the kind of diet that one takes. Animal diets that contain high contents of fat increase the chances of getting prostate cancer. On contrary, diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables decreases the likelihood of developing prostate cancer.
