For most of us, the kitchen sink is somehow part of our daily routine. This is where we wash our dishes and our food. But this is also probably one of the parts of the house that we disregard and seldom maintain. However, for the times we cannot use our kitchen sink, this is when we realize its use. Our dirty dishes pile up, which makes the entire kitchen stink. Cooking without the kitchen sink also seems impossible. It is like all your kitchen activities stop. And the usual problem of a kitchen sink is only the clogged drain. You actually do not have to wait for a plumber to fix such problem. Unclogging the drain of your sink is very easy. You can do it on your own so you can get back to your daily kitchen activities right away. You can even save a few dollars by not hiring someone else to do the repair for you. Just follow the simple steps below.
- Prepare the things you will need such as rubber gloves, vinegar, baking soda, and large container.
- Before starting the work, dry the sink first and make sure there is no excess water.
- Then, get the big container like a large bowl, measuring cup, or pitcher. This is where you will mix the solution to be used for unclogging the drain.
- Put in 1/3 cup of vinegar and 1/3 cup baking soda. As you combine the two, the solution will fizz up that is why you have to make sure that your container is large enough to avoid any spills.
- Right after preparing the solution, pour everything directly to the drain of the sink. You have to pour the liquid as fast as you can because the fizz of the solution slowly stops.
- Give time for the solution to take action. 5 minutes waiting time would be fine.
- After which, rinse the drain with warm or hot water to completely remove the solution in the drain. Keep the warm tap water running. The drain should be unclogged by this time.
- You can try doing the solution again and again if it does not work the first time. You can also pour in boiling water to dissolve the clog.
- This method is a lot safer than using chemical products available in the market, which can be dangerous for your pipes and the environment. But if after several tries of doing this process and you still prefer to use commercial products, be very cautious and follow the directions that comes with it.
