Living in the colder parts of the world means that you have to deal with winter seasons, snow, and freezing temperatures. If that is the case, a car heater is very important to have when driving a car under these circumstances. Thus, when your car heater breaks down, it’s really a big deal for these car owners. Here you’ll learn about checking for car heater problems and what to do about it as well.

When you encounter a car heater problem, the first thing you should do is to check that you are not low on coolant. At the same time, you will need a thermostat to measure the temperature. You can also get your garden hose and blow any crud out of your heater’s core. This works well if there’s really no problem with car heater. Just make sure that the heater core nipples are clean and clear for the water to flow.

Smoking car

Aside from that, when your coolant level gets low, there is a lot of air trapped in your heater core. This will also cause your car heater to malfunction. What you can do is to jack up your car’s front. Then, you will need to remove your radiator cap. Make sure to warm up the car and then turn on that heater to the highest temperature. This will help that air to dissolve in your coolant and leak out at the open cap.

Another thing to check is that there are no bubbles near the thermostat. Make sure that when you close everything up, there are no bubbles in sight. What you can do is to get that upper radiator hose. Squeeze it carefully. Of course you have to make sure that the hose is firmly attached. Fill up your coolant up to the neck while releasing the hose. Continue doing it as you squeeze until you no longer see any bubbles. Bubbles are said to be the number one cause of overheating. It will also make your engine head fail. So make sure that you don’t leave any.

Now if you want to clear out your heater core, some say that it’s also helpful to add some very strong vinegar while you clear it out with a hose. This will help your heater core to clear out. It’s just normal for a heater core to get clogged. So when you clean it, make sure there are no other noticeable problems in your heating and cooling systems. In fact, if there’s anything that can get clogged, it’s usually the heater core.
