There are more than sixty recorded airplanes in the World War One history. Even during that time, airplanes have been very popular. Let’s take a look at some of the World War One airplanes and know them one by one.

AEG C-series Bomber Airplane

One of the popular fighter-bomber airplanes was the AEG C-series. This kind of airplane was developed by the Allgemeine Elektritzitats Gesellschaft. It was one of the main types of airplanes used by the Imperial Germany during that time. This kind of airplane was great as a bomber airplane but was also suitable as a fighter plane. It’s very flexible design made it a very functional fighter-bomber airplane.

For this series of airplanes, the most popular was the C IV. It was the most mass-produced of all the AIG C series. This kind of World War One Airplane was one that served its purpose throughout the duration of the World War One.

Moving forward, another type of World War One airplane is the Albatros B II.

It served as a survey biplane that was mostly used in the early years of the war. Again, this kind of airplane was mostly used by the Germans. It had a propeller with two blades and a front-mounted engine. Its body was slim and squarish at the same time. So it could seat only 2 crewmembers. The Albatros was designed by Ernst Heinkel who became more popular in the World War II having designed a lot of types of airplanes during that era. He has created one of the most respected aircrafts from the Second World War. Going back, the Albatros was phased out early during the war. However, it was still used later on for training and some other purposes.

From this type of World War One airplane came the Albatros Flugzeugwerke which became one of the most well-known brands in Germany.

It was also popularly called as the Gunbus. Again, this kind of World War One airplane was used for scouting. This scouting biplane however is different than the rest of the scouting planes. This one is the first scouting plane armed. Thus, the Vickers FB.5 was actually known as the original real fighter aircraft. In 1915 it was stationed in France.

The Original Sopwith Biplane

Lastly, what was said to be the best fighter airplane in World War One was the Sopwith Biplane. It is more popularly called the Camel. It comes from the previous types of Sopwith which was the Pup biplane and the Triplane series. The Camel was known to be a great dogfighter machine and originated from the United Kingdom.
