Everyone has something interesting that’s happened to them in the course of their lifetime. If you’re getting on in years and want to document your life story so that people years to come, including family members, can look back and see what type of person you really were you can easily write an autobiography.
Now before you jump the gun and think that no one would want to read about what you have to say because you haven’t done anything interesting, write down all of the monumental events that have happened in your life. Consider all of the historical events that have taken place like man landing on the moon, or the advent of the modern computer. Think about all of the things that have happened throughout human history that have helped you get where you are today. Once you’re confident in who you are and what you have to stay, it’s time to get to work.
Who
You’re going to want to start your autobiography by describing who you are. Cover things like when and where you were born and most importantly, your name. With all of the ground work covered and maybe even a little background about how your parents came to have you, try building your life story a bit. The key to establishing who you are is to figure out interesting facts about yourself that no one else would be able to relate to. Covering new territory in people’s minds is a good way to keep them hooked. Talk about yourself in a flattering way and point out things about your upbringing that may differ from everyone elses’ start to life.
Go Chronologically
With the groundwork laid, it’s time to work through your story. The most popular method of writing an autobiography is to write chronologically. Start at the beginning of things and work your way to now. Cover all of the interesting details we told you to write down and make sure that you have a theme in place. Most people use the theme of looking on to the future and never looking back. Keep optimism in your writing tone or readers may get bored.
The Future
Once you have yourself established as a character in your own life and have told your entire story, you’ll want to conclude the entire autobiography. The best way to do that is to consider the future. Give insight into why and how you think the world works and what it all means. Most people get spiritual in these types of passages and keep their thoughts humble. Consider what the reader might think of you when reading your outlook section. Talk about any plans that you have for future days and anything you would like to avoid. This is a wrap up section that will allow the reader to imagine beyond where you are today. When you die you’re going to want people to be able to reference something to see what your dreams were.
