A footnote refers to the reference mark that allows one’s reader to find the noted information’s source. Footnotes are usually put at sentence end, after the sentence’s
period and this is usually where the important information appears. Footnotes generally come in the form of numbers and are usually superscripted. If one cannot manage to super script they can always use parentheses. If one uses their footnotes properly then their reader will be able to know exactly where the information was sourced from.
A Proper Processor
Getting a proper word processor is the first step of how to use footnotes. Proper word processors have footnote functions, which allow users to place their footnotes in their work at the correct places and without wasting much time. One of the best things about the program is if one adds more information onto a page and the referenced information gets bumped onto a fresh page, the user’s footnote that is attached to the referenced info will get dumped to the following page as well. As a result the user will never have to worry if their footnote is on the right page or not.
Inserting a Footnote Number
Start by clicking onto foot note option that is on the edit or insert drop-down menu on the word processor. After clicking on the option a menu will come up as a result and asking a few queries regarding the foot note’s formatting. Numbers are recommended at this stage and one should start at number 1. Any footnotes that will come afterwards will carry the next number and incase any other footnotes are inserted between the other footnotes; there will be adjustments to make the foot notes match. Do not worry about the numbering as the word processor will ensure that the number that is seen to be floating alongside the referenced information suits the proper source of the footnote.
Inserting the Information of the Source
If one are using words that are cited with the footnotes use brief information when inserting the info. When using the footnote it is advisable to use the proper order. The order mainly starts with the last name of the author, the source title and then finally the page number. Same punctuation should be used as well. The source title in this case will be the article title or book title and it should be the same as the content of the cited work.
Footnotes are normally used to help one understand better the meaning of the word that can be selected or even give a better reference of it. They are used to guide the reader when reading.
