How to Stop a Common Cold?

Protecting oneself from a common cold should be a priority regardless of whether one feels susceptible to frequent attacks or not. In fact, if one has gone for a long spell without having had an attack it should be no reason for complacency. The likelihood of getting an attack may occur at the time when one least expects it. The mechanisms that one can use to protect him or herself from a common cold though simple require much consistency. The urge to insulate oneself from attacks should be motivated by the fact that as of now there is yet no established cure for common colds.

Boost Your Immunity

One of the primary methods to avoiding common colds is by boosting one’s immunity. This aims to make the body strong enough to ward off any infection from cold causing viruses. One of the ways through which the immune system may get a boost is by eating foods that are rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are famed for providing resistance against any infection that could be traced to some of the viruses that are responsible for causing a common cold or symptoms related to it. Such viruses include corona virus as well as rhinovirus. Similarly, taking juices that have vitamin C will go a long way in strengthening the immune system. This will eventually reduce chances of common cold infections.

Liquids and Antihistamines

Another approach that could considerably reduce chances of one having a common cold for long periods is by increasing the quantity of liquids or fluids that one drinks. Such liquids should not be too cold as this could make the throat sore, which will in turn make the common cold worse. To counter other effects of the common cold, one can also opt for prescription drugs, which work in different ways. Antihistamines, for instance can reduce the frequency of sneezing, running nose. They can also help to reduce other common cold symptoms by discouraging the production of histamine, an allergic substance that occurs in the blood. Other symptoms should also be treated with appropriate prescription drugs.

Chicken Soup and Home Remedies

Chicken soup is also recommended for any one suffering a common cold as it helps to reduce the effect one feels from the common cold. Similarly, one should also consider other warm liquids as they could provide a similar calming effect. Furthermore, they will also counter the frequency of feeling chills. There are also plenty of herbal remedies that have been recommended for fighting common colds. These include ginger, licorice, chamomile, garlic as well as mint.
