How to Repair Car Bodywork

 

There’s a lot of possible bodywork repair one can do with his or her car. You can do a repair to your car’s bodywork on the front end or rear end.   1. Before we start with repairing your car’s front end, it is best to make sure that the engine carriage was not misaligned when you bumped your car. To do so, get a tram gauge and take two cross measurements.   2. Once you verify that your engine carriage was not affected and that it is perfectly aligned, you are now ready to position a radiator support to the engine carriage. Match up the panels with several clamps.
  3. Now, to fuse the panels together, you’ll need to make a series of factory-quality welds. To do this, you will need a two-sided spot welder to professionally fuse the panels together. Make sure that you wear a welding shield when doing this step. Also, don’t forget to wear the right gloves for this task.
  4. Once you installed the new radiator and other components of your car’s engine, it’s time to refill the radiator.
  5. Now, it’s time to install the side fenders of your car. Make sure to check the new fenders fit perfectly before screwing any bolts. This is the time you can make adjustments before you affix those new fenders. Once you’re sure they’re a right fit, bolt the new fenders into place. Make use of a pneumatic wrench to do this.
  6. Now, you’ll probably need a new hood if your old one got wrecked during the accident. If not, then you’ll just need to replace the hood to its position. Bolt it and we’re ready to go to the next step.
  7. As always, when repairing car bodywork, paint is involved. So it’s time to prep your vehicle by masking the parts that won’t be painted such as the lights, the glass, etc. If you are using a new hood or you did some fixes to your hood, then perhaps you’ll need to repaint it too. Repaint it separately before you attach it back to your car.
  8. Now the bumper brackets are very important to be able to put in a new front bumper. First, temporarily tack-weld the brackets to your frame so you can be able to make adjustments if necessary. Use a MIG welder to do this. Once you’re done adjusting the brackets such that your front bumper will fit perfectly, it’s time to permanently weld the bracket to your frame. Now if you have damaged bumper brackets in palace, grind them off first.
