in order to repair decks, there is no need to remove floorboards unless there is no clearance beneath the deck to work from and access the affected post. A jack is placed below the joint close to the affected post. The post needs to be raised to the original level again by slowly hauling it up. Raising the post too quickly normally makes the wood pull the hangers apart. The post should be raised with pauses made at short intervals to listen to any unusual sounds that are proof of something being pulled apart.

When the post is returned to its rightful level a lengthy pipe should be lowered. The dirt from the recently lifted area should be made loose near the post. It needs to be pushed down until resistance is met. The pipe should be used as a funnel while pea gravel is gradually poured into the hole. To put maximum amount of gravel into the hole, the pipe needs to be worked slowly up and down. The process is repeated until the deck is brought to its rightful level even after removing the jack.

To increase the longevity of a deck one is required to:

1.Always check the deck for railings, boards and loose nails. Nails that have stuck with the screw need to be removed or replaced. Any loose railings must be replaced immediately to avoid any hazards.

2.Dirt should be frequently cleaned from the wood deck. Mild detergents diluted in water can be used and proper time given to the rinsing process.

3.Mineral spirits are recommended for use to clean stains made by tree sap.

The deck needs to be inspected for loose stairs, a problem caused when nails or bolts are not fully tightened. Exterior deck bolts and nails treated to resist rust should be used for the missing ones.
