  1. Clean the CD.

Sometimes, all your CD needs is a good cleaning. This is especially important even if your CD isn’t scratched yet. It can actually help prevent scratches and dirt residue in the future. This should be the first step when your CD doesn’t play. What you should do is to run warm water in your CD to first get rid of the dust. While you wash it with warm water, gently rub visible dirt with your fingers. If there’s grease in your CD, then use liquid soap or a gentle detergent that’s mixed with water. Once you rub the CD, you should start from the center towards the end. After cleaning, air-dry the CD. Don’t let it dry under the sun and don’t use a cloth or towel to dry it either.

  1. Play the CD in another player or in a computer.

Sometimes, it may be that your CD just can’t be read by a certain CD player. It would be best to try the CD in another player. It would be best to try the CD in your computer and see if it works. Now I know that it doesn’t really solve the fact that it won’t work in other players, but the important thing to do now while it still plays in a computer, is to copy the contents of the CD. Copy it and burn the contents in a new CD. That way, you’re sure that you have a fresh CD with all your most important songs. In fact, even if the computer can no longer play the CD, it may be worth to try burning it. Sometimes, as long as the computer can read the CD, it may still be able to produce a perfect copy.

  1. Repair your CD the DJ way.

DJs use this technique all the time. Turn your lamp that has a 60 watts incandescent filament bulb. Hold the CD in the center whole and flip the recorded side in front of the light for 20 seconds. The distance must be about 4 inches. Slowly rotate the CD. While hot, play it in your player and see if it does the trick.
