How to Play Rugby

Rugby is a popular sport in countries like Australia, New Zealand, England and other European countries. The game developed in two forms, which are the Rugby League and the Rugby Union. The Rugby League is commonly played in New Zealand and Australia, while the Rugby Union is participated in the European Countries mainly in England. The Rugby field is similar to the size of the Football and Soccer fields. Therefore if there is no Rugby field in your area, you can use the Football or Soccer field instead. The football posts can be used as an end line. Rugby also has goal posts, same as the Football posts. But when using a soccer field, you will need to adapt a goal post pointing upwards. To know more on how to play the game, here are some steps.

1. The duration of the Rugby game lasts for 80 minutes. It is divided into two halves, which is 40 minutes each.
2. You will need a Rugby ball and other Rugby equipments like boots, shorts, and jersey. A mouth guard can also be used to protect your teeth since rugby is a rough game with many physical contacts.
3. There should be two teams with 15 players on each side. Each player has specific duties and positions. The positions are the prop, hooker, lock, flanker, 8^th man, scrum half, fly half, weak side wing, inside center, outside center, strong side wing, and the fullback. The formation of each team may differ. It is usually broken down in two groups, or at times it can be three.
4. The following are the game rules and the point system: A Rugby Try is similar to the American Football touchdown, but the difference is the play still continues when the try line or touchdown is crossed. In order to score in a try, a player must push the ball downward while keeping it away from the opponent. The referee will then decide if the team will be given a score. A Rugby try is given 5 points. On the other hand, a conversion is made up of 2 points. It is earned when the goal kicker kicks the ball between the two goal posts from the try mark. For the penalty, it is made up of 3 points. When penalty is given, the captain may decide to take points by giving the kicker a chance to kick the ball to the goal posts from the referee’s mark. Lastly, a drop goal consists of 3 points and it is awarded when a player attempts a drop kick anywhere and anytime in the field. It is usually done when the offense cannot penetrate the defensive team.
