Salmon is one of the great types of fish on the upper side of the market. It’s among the pricey fish that one can buy in the grocery today. It’s a great fish to serve for your special occasions. However, it’s also a great fish to grill. Even though it’s a fish, it has a relatively high fat content. That means it can stand the heat of your grill. It’s a great fish to grill as it has a less chance of drying out as compared to the other leaner types of fish. What’s more is that salmon is among the best tasting types of fish. That’s why a lot of people enjoy salmon steaks and grilled salmon fillets. All that you need is a slow grill and you’re ready to learn how to grill salmon!

Before we go to the grilling, it’s best to prepare your salmon first. When choosing your salmon fillets in the market, get the fillets about an inch thick. When you get home, prepare your salmon by removing the skin. Some people however, like to retain that skin. However, by removing the skin in your salmon, you are able to season both sides of the fish. So it’s up to you if you want your salmon with or without the skin. Just remember, if you want to pre-season, it’s recommended to remove the skin.

When seasoning your fish, simple seasonings will do the trick. You can try seasoning your salmon with salt, pepper, and dill. You can also use the Old Bay seasoning which is great for seafood. However, there are still a lot of ready-made marinades and seasonings now available in the supermarket. The important tip when marinating fish like salmon is to not marinade the fish for more than fifteen minutes before you cook it. If so, the acidic ingredients will only break down the fish meat and make it mushy as you cook it. It will result to a lousy fish served on a platter.

Now, it’s time to grill. Preheat your grill to medium high. You can also use a heavy duty aluminum foil for your salmon to sit on as it grills. This will enable your fish to not fall through the grill grates. However, it is not necessary for your salmon as it is meaty enough not to flake. However, it will be extra protection for you as grill. Let it grill until your desired doneness. Now, you’re ready to enjoy your delicious grilled salmon. Pair it with some rice or green salad and enjoy a glass of grape juice!
