Basic knowledge of plumbing is very important for one to be able to fix some of the leakages that occurs in house drainage pipes. If you want to fix house drain pipe leaks, you will be required to have the following tools and materials:
- Plumbing tools
- Washers,
- Waterproof sealing adhesive,
- Thread,
- Screwdriver,
- Loose screws and joints.
Once you have gathered the necessary materials and tools, then you need to go step by step in fixing the house drain pipe. Before you start the repairing work, make sure that you have checked out the size of the sink. Kitchen drains and bathrooms drains are of different sizes, whereby bathroom drains are of smaller size than bathroom drains. In addition, drains pipes are also of different materials.
Determine the direction in which the drain directs the water, check whether it is horizontal or vertical drains. If the drain is a horizontal one, then you will need a p trap to fix it and if the drain is vertical, you will have to use a T trap in order to fix it. You will be required to use instruments associated with plumbing such as washes and adhesives, threads and waterproof sealing. These will help in holding the pipe and binding it together so that it stops the problem of water leaking. Once the problem has been identified, then it becomes easy to fix the leakage.
If the sink has a broken joint, then you will have to replace it so that you can stop the water from leaking, however if the pipe is having a loose joints, apply threads to improve the grip of the pipe. After doing that, you will need to add waterproof adhesive so as to strengthen the pipe. This will make it much stronger and lasting. You must also check for loose screws and washers.
If the washers are broken they should be replaced as soon as possible with brand new ones. These washers will be in a position to stop the problem of water leakage in that they will act as a wall between the joints. If you want to repair long section of the pipe, use a “sweat” coupling which you can get it from well-stocked hardware selling stores. Once you have finished repairing the leakage pipe, you can flow some water through it and see whether the leakage problem has stopped. You must do this to ensure that you will not go back to the process again.
