Embroidery is done using thread to decorate a fabric or to make the entire fabric. Different kinds of frames and hoops can be used for embroidery and are available locally today. Needles can also be used for purposes of embroidery. Different sizes of needles can be used for this purpose. For each needle size one can also be able to get threads for embroidering. When embroidering, the sharpness of the needle to use should also be considered in relation to the fabric being made.
- Study the pattern that is to be made carefully. Identify the kind of needle that can be used on the particular fabric that the embroidery is being done and the size of thread to use for the task.
- One can make a technique sampler to determine how well the fabric will handle the embroidery to reduce the possibility of tearing out of the fabric.

- Determine the most appropriate color of the design to be embroidered. This should be done in relation to the color of the fabric through eliminating the most unlikely colors.
- The color scheme should not be limited but the colors being used should be kept very simple.
- The colors being used can be varied by use of different stitches to create an illusion on the material once light strikes it. This can be done by varying the different values of the color in use for embroidery. The illusion can also be created by changing the direction of the stitches.
- A basic color can also be used to make the patterns. These include the bright colors.
- Apply the colors to the fabric by drawing freely with the hands using the needle and thread selected.
- For people who cannot draw, the pattern being drawn can be transferred to the fabric by use of a dressmaker’s transfer paper. The paper used should have a wax base that can be removed once the fabric is washed.
- A carbon paper can also be used to accomplish this task being careful not to cause a smudge and lose the pattern before it is completed.
- Once the drawing is done, tear away the excess and wash the fabric to disintegrate the tissue under the stitching.
- On completion of the project, guiding marks should be visible on the fabric. Use these guidelines to stitch through the fabric outlining the pattern.
- One technique of stitching such as the whipped running stitch may be used to create the design that is already outlined on the fabric. This should be done carefully until the design is completed successfully.
- The embroidery work is now complete.
The kind of designs one wants to use and colors depend on ones preference. Also one can have a certain theme in mind and work around getting it.
