How to Cook in a Rice Cooker

Rice has been a staple for some countries. That’s why having a rice cooker is almost a must, especially in the Eastern part of the world. However, for those who aren’t really that accustomed to eating rice on a daily basis, cooking rice, as well as using the rice cooker may not be a familiar thing to do. The rice cooker is a very handy kitchen equipment that doesn’t need to be watched. It has its own timer that clicks and stops the cooking when the rice being cooked is already done. A rice cooker has a cooking pot inside where you can take out and fill in with the rice and water for cooking. Simply put it back the rice cooker when you’re done rinsing your rice. Then close the lid or cover of the rice cooker. Push down the cook button and just wait until it clicks. It will even keep your rice warm after it is cooked.

So now let’s get onto cooking some rice with a rice cooker. When you get a rice cooker, it will surely come with a cup or scoop to measure your rice. A cup of uncooked rice will yield about one and a half cups of cooked rice. So now that you know how many cups of rice you need, start measuring and pouring the rice in the cooking pot. Now, it’s time to rinse your rice. Some rice may not need any more washing simply because they are already rinsed and already fortified with vitamins and minerals. However, if you are buying ordinary rice, simply rinse it with water. Pour water into the pot and rinse. This way, you are making sure you’re getting rid of any dirt from the sack and you are also removing any contaminants that could be present. Once rinsed, drain the rice just by pouring the pot at an angle. Be careful not to spill the rice. It would be best to hold the bottom part so that you can grab any falling rice grains. You can rinse the rice twice if the water during your first rinse wasn’t that clear or clean. However, if it’s already clean, it’s time to cook.

Once your rice has been drained, it’s time to pour water to your rice in the pot. The rice cooker’s cooking pot already has lines in it with numbers indicating up to where you should fill the pot with water. The number on the cooking pot represents the number of cups of rice you used. However, if you prefer stickier rice, you can pour one more line of water. So let’s say you used 3 cups of rice, you should fill the pot with water up to the line that says 3. For stickier rice, you can pour water up to the line that indicates 4.

Now, just place the cooking pot back in the rice cooker, close the cover, and then turn the rice cooker on. Just wait until it clicks and keep it warm for a bit. Now, you’re ready to serve your rice.
