The first thing you should know about learning how to cook anything are the methods of cooking. There are several methods of cooking. The most common ways to cook anything include frying or stir-frying, deep frying, steaming, baking, grilling, boiling, or cooking in the microwave, which proves to be the most convenient method for some. Now let’s take a look at each of the various methods of cooking.
- When frying, you’ll simply need a skillet or a wok. Frying also needs oil so your ingredients won’t stick to the pan. Of course you will need a slotted turner to be able to turn and stir your ingredients while frying. The most basic sample of dish you can cook using frying is scrambled or sunny side up eggs. Stir-frying is the same except that it’s better to use a wok so you have more room to continuously stir the ingredients you are cooking. A great example of a stir-fry dish are mostly Asian recipes like beef broccoli or Asian stir-fry noodles. When cooking through deep frying, you can make use of a wok or a deep fryer. In deep frying, you need to submerge your ingredient in oil to deep fry or cook. Dishes cooked by deep frying included breaded chicken, breaded fish fillet, and chops among others.
- When you need to steam a dish, all you need is a steamer. You can also make use of a double broiler pot to steam a dish if you don’t have a steamer. The principle is to boil water and use its steam to cook the dish. The second layer of your double broiler pot is where you should place the dish or ingredients you need to steam. Basically, it will cook through steam but the ingredients should not touch the water or get wet. Steamed buns, steamed fish, and steamed vegetables are examples of dishes that you can cook through steaming.
- Baking requires the use of the oven. All you need is your oven and an oven-proof casserole or pan to place the ingredients that you need to bake.
- When you need to grill, of course, you simply need a grill. There are indoor grills available too. You will need long or big tongs to be able to handle your dishes in the grill. Example of grilled dishes are grilled chops, grilled chicken, barbecues and even grilled vegetables like onions, tomatoes, and corn.
- If you need to boil, you’ll simply need a pot filled with water. Heat it up until the water boils and add in the ingredient you need to boil. Reduce the heat to medium or low and let it cook covered until the ingredient you are cooking is tender enough. An example would be boiled eggs.
- Lastly, you can also make use of the microwave when cooking. However, only use this method if the recipe calls for it.
Those are the most basic methods of cooking. Just remember that when cooking, all you have to do is stick to the recipe. Do as it says and you are sure to end up with a well-cooked meal that you and your family will love!
