- Buy 4 × 4 wood that will be used for the latch and hinge posts. 2 × 4 boards will be used as frame while the pickets require 1 × 2 boards. These sizes may vary in design depending on the person preference.
- With the use of the posthole digger, dig 3 inch deep post holes.
- Insert the latch and hinge posts into the post holes and, Pour some gravel and thereafter pour in earth or concrete to securely hold the post upright.
- The horizontal supports are cut into sections that can adequately fit onto the gateway.
- Drywall screws should be used to attach horizontal supports to the hinges.
- The hinges are then fixed to the standing hinge post with the use of permanent screws.
- To install a diagonal support, measurement of the support beam is done before it is cut. The exact measurements should be confirmed before cutting.
- Drill the pilot holes in order for the diagonal beam to be attached onto the leveled supports. Long screws are needed for this procedure
- Using a square, make spot markings where pickets will be mounted to the structure of the gate.
- The gate is removed and the unwanted pieces of wood from the portions are cut or scraped off to give it a finished look
- The gate is remounted back securely and a gate latch is screwed onto the gate.
- Check whether the gate can open and close properly.
