A disability benefit is given by the Social Security Administration for the disabled. This means you are not capable to work for at least one year due to your severe physical or mental condition. - Ask Social Security office if your child is within the allowable limits considering your income or resources and if you can proceed with the Supplemental Security Income application.

Application for Adult (Age 18 and above)

- Fill out the application form for Social Security Benefits online. But if you have never worked before, skip this step and contact the nearest Social Security office after accomplishing step 3.
- Fill out Adult Disability Report online. Part of this report asks for approval that your doctor can give information regarding your condition. This will help them decide on the claim or benefits that will be given to you.
